Employers hiring drivers read CVs fast. They look for three things in seconds: the right licence class, enough experience on the right vehicle, and signs that you are safe and reliable. A short, clear CV that shows those three gets you to the practical test.

## What should go at the top of a driver CV?

Your name, phone number and email, the town you live in, and then your licence details on their own line: classes, and any PSV badge. For example: "Driving licence: B, C1, C. PSV badge: yes, valid." Put this before anything else.

## How do you write a driver profile?

Two or three sentences: your years of experience, the vehicles you drive, the kind of driving and your record. "Professional driver with eight years' experience driving saloon cars and 4x4s for an NGO, including long trips to field sites in northern Kenya. Clean driving record, careful with vehicle care and log books."

## How should you describe your driving experience?

For each job, give the employer, your title, the dates, and three or four lines on:

- The vehicles you drove, for example "Toyota Land Cruiser" or "10-tonne Isuzu FVZ".
- The routes or areas you covered.
- What you were trusted with: staff, guests, cash, goods or children.
- Results: years without an accident, deliveries on time, vehicle costs kept down.

## Which documents and training should you list?

Your licence classes, PSV badge, certificate of good conduct, any defensive driving or first aid training, and the driving school where you trained. If you can do basic vehicle maintenance, say so: employers value drivers who spot problems early.

If you have a reference from a previous employer, such as a transport manager or the person you drove for, add their name and phone number at the end, or say that references are available on request.

## What mistakes cost drivers the job?

- Leaving out the licence class, or burying it at the bottom.
- Vague lines such as "drove the company car" instead of the vehicle, the routes and the record.
- Including your ID number, date of birth or a photo when the advert does not ask for them.
- An old phone number. Employers call drivers rather than email them, so make sure it works.
- Sending the same CV to a truck job and a school bus job. Lead with the experience each one needs.
