Take-home pay calculator

Enter your gross monthly salary in Kenya shillings. We apply the statutory deductions in force from February 2026, in the order your employer's payroll does.

How the calculation works

  1. NSSF. 6% of your pay up to KES 9,000 (Tier I), plus 6% of pay between KES 9,000 and KES 108,000 (Tier II). The most an employee pays is KES 6,480 a month. Your employer matches it.
  2. SHIF. 2.75% of gross pay with a minimum of KES 300 and no upper cap. This replaced NHIF in October 2024.
  3. Affordable Housing Levy. 1.5% of gross pay, matched by your employer.
  4. Taxable pay. Gross pay minus NSSF, SHIF and the Housing Levy. Since 27 December 2024 all three are deducted before PAYE is worked out.
  5. PAYE. Charged in monthly bands, then reduced by personal relief of KES 2,400.

This is an estimate for a resident employee with one employer and no other reliefs. Insurance relief, pension contributions above NSSF, mortgage interest, allowances and benefits in kind all change the result. Your payslip is the final word. If the numbers differ a lot, ask your HR or payroll team which items they included.
