Monica started as a job board and has grown into a hiring platform for Kenya. Employers ask us to find, check and shortlist candidates. Hospitals book locum clinicians. Job seekers browse open jobs, build a CV, write cover letters and read our career guides. Along the way we have learned a lot about how hiring in Kenya actually works, and this blog is where we will share it.
What will the blog cover?
Posts fall into four sections, and you can follow any of them from the tabs at the top of the blog.
- Career guides. Practical advice for job seekers: writing a CV that gets shortlisted, answering interview questions, reading a Kenyan payslip, negotiating salary and spotting fake jobs. These are the guides that already live under Guides, now listed here too.
- Engineering. How we build Monica: the decisions behind features, what went wrong and what we changed.
- Data. What we see across the jobs we list and the candidates we shortlist: which roles are in demand, how pay compares across fields, and how people find work.
- News. New features, changes to the product and updates for the employers and job seekers who use Monica.
Who is it for?
Job seekers who want straight answers about finding work in Kenya, employers who want to understand the market they are hiring in, and anyone curious about how a small team builds a hiring platform. We write in plain English and keep posts specific to Kenya: Kenyan employers, Kenyan regulators and pay in Kenya shillings.
